Pelton Mount Carmel
Poughkeepsie, NY
The Pelton Manor sits on a prominent 2.45 +/- acre parcel located at 36 North Clover Street on the western side of Poughkeepsie overlooking the Poughkeepsie Train Station and the Poughkeepsie Waterfront. The Property is owned by Pelton Partners which is comprised of two local businessmen. They are working with the surrounding community to regenerate this property as part of the City of Poughkeepsie’s revitalization.
This project consists of the revitalization of site as well as the repurposing of the Pelton Manor as a home for a Not-for-Profit organization and the construction five new multi-family structures on the site; The Fallkill Building, The Dongan Building, The River Building, The Station Building and the Carriage House. These will form a campus-like environment with the buildings situated at the perimeter of the parcel.
The Pelton Manor will be the focal point of the campus and is given this prominence through the arrangements of the other buildings, building styles and the color pallet used. The Pelton Manor is to maintain its original light color tones, where the newer buildings use darker earthy tones. Accents of a copper color is used to identify the location of the Monumental Stair.
The new buildings will contrast with the Pelton Manor through their modern innovative use of historical details and the building’s shape, scale and proportions.
The Fallkill and the Dongan Buildings take advantage of their frontage on Dongan Place by providing porches and decks that open to the street and connect to the adjoining neighborhood and park. There are to be a total of 46 dwelling units proposed consisting of studios, single and two-bedroom units with 67 on-site parking spaces, including provision for electric car charging stations.
A pocket park, created on the west side of the property, provides a location for the tenants and residents of the adjoining neighborhood to enjoy the views of the Hudson River as well as the Mid-Hudson Bridge and the Walkway Over the Hudson.
