Hilltop at Van Wagner Place
This is part of a complex of commercial, business and residential buildings that have been developed by Steven Tinkelman on the eastern side of Poughkeepsie. It is located near the Arlington Town Center.
This three-story multi-family residential building is comprised of a combination of one-story simplex units located on the first floor of the building with duplex units located above. All of the 16 units have private entrances. These consist of one- and two-bedroom floor plans, designed with residential living in mind.
• One -story flats – One and two bedrooms
• Two-story units – Two bedrooms
• Two-story units w/ loft – One bedroom
Units feature oversized windows and outdoor patios or porches, and within loft units, double height spaces. The exterior of the building steps in and out creating the unique façade which sets it apart from other multi-residential buildings within Poughkeepsie. The gable roofs have been broken with shed roof forms that extend from the building and have large roof overhangs. There is a playful use of windows around the building which provide dynamic views from inside the residence.
The exterior finishes consist of clapboard, shake and vertical siding, highlighting the various architectural elements. The roofs, consisting of asphalt shingles, are accented with smaller metal standing seam roofs. The interiors are modern with clean crisp lines and simple trim profiles. The finishes consist of bamboo flooring, ceramic tile, vinyl composition tile and carpeting which are all low VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds).
The development of the site included the use of rain gardens and permeable pavement used to limit storm water run-off as well as native plantings that are incorporated into the landscaping.
